Aeroline: Premium, first-class coach from Singapore to Malaysia
The Singapore - Kuala Lumpur coach route is one of the most popular and most competitive routes in the region. On an average weekend, there is a coach departing Singapore for KL (and vice versa) every 15 to 30 minutes.
In addition to regular 27- or 30-seater coaches, there also exists a special breed or niche of premium, first-class coaches that offer amenities such as on-board entertainment system, (almost)-flat beds, on-board meals, etc. at premium prices.
Aeroline is one of the few coach operators in the sector that offer premium coach services for KL and Singapore. In addition to highly competitive fares, Aeroline also has frequent coach departures, and is currently the only operator to offer on-board toilet in its coaches.
Travel Experience: HarbourFront, Singapore to Sunway Pyramid by Aeroline coach
Aeroline coaches depart from HarbourFront Centre (next to HarbourFront MRT and VivoCity).
Aeroline's service centre is located at level 2 of the ferry/cruise terminal, next to BatamFast's ticketing office. You are required to check-in at the service centre 30 minutes before departure.
Inside the Aeroline Service Centre. Lockers are available in case you wanted to do some last-minute shopping around the terminal without the burden of tugging your luggage around.
A boarding pass is issued after check-in.
Heading to HarbourFront Centre's coach bay. Aeroline coaches usually park at the end of the coach bay.
The coach arrived 10 minutes departure. Aeroline uses Scania-Sksbus double-decker coaches on all its routes.
Hmm... where are the wings?
Interior of the Aeroline coach. As with most of the intercity coaches plying Malaysia's roads, the seats are arranged in 2-1 configuration.
View of my single seat at row 7. A small pillow is provided in addition to an adjustable leather pillow attached to the seat.
View of the ample legroom on Aeroline's seats.
Two USB charging ports can be found below the seat. For double seats, the charging ports can be found on the armrest between the seats.
An AC power socket is also available.
Each seat also has a small tray table.
The toilet is located at the lower deck. However, the toilet is meant for light usage only.
Shortly before departure, the coach's steward handed out blankets to all passengers.
He then made a welcome announcement via the bus' PA system:
"Good morning ladies and gentlemen, welcome on board on Aeroline bus XXXXXX bound for Sunway Pyramid. With you today is Bus Captain XXXX and your Cabin Crew XXXX. Journey time from Singapore to Sunway is around six hours and the traffic is expected to be smooth but there might be some delays at customs ....... Together with Bus Captain XXXX we wish you a pleasant journey to Sunway"
Wow...
From HarbourFront, the coach made its way to Tuas Checkpoint via Alexandra Road and AYE.
Approaching Tuas Checkpoint.
After a 30-minute stop at Tuas Checkpoint for immigration clearance, the coach continued its way to CIQ Tanjung Kupang for Malaysian immigration clearance.
As most of the coaches were still stuck at Tuas Checkpoint, immigration clearance at Tanjung Kupang was relatively quick.
The on-board entertainment system was activated after clearing Malaysian immigration.
The Funtoro entertainment system offers a selection of English, Chinese, Malay, and Hindi movies and TV shows. There is also a wide selection of music in English, Chinese, Malay, and Hindi languages as well as some old but gold games.
You may use your own headphones or request for one from the steward.
Kuala Lumpur is another 4 hours away.
A hot meal is served after Senai Utara interchange. Vegetarian meal can be requested during booking.
A hot beverage is served after the meal. Beverage options include tea, coffee, and chocolate malt.
Two hours after departure from Tanjung Kupang CIQ, the coach made a 15-minute rest stop at R&R Tangkak.
Another two hours later, the coach entered Bandar Sunway.
View of Sunway Pyramid's iconic sphinx.
After a journey of six hours, I arrived at Sunway Pyramid.
Aeroline's service centre at Sunway is located outside the mall, directly opposite Sunway Lagoon's main entrance.
An entrance beside the service centre takes you directly to the mall's Blue Atrium at LG2.
In summary, I find the coach journey from Singapore to Sunway by Aeroline quite comfortable, and thanks to the amenities available on-board the coach, I am able to step off the coach fully refreshed and recharged.
